Americans are only sleeping about six hours and 40 minutes on an average weeknight, which is at least 40 minutes shy of the recommended sleep time, according to a survey of 1,000 participants by the National Sleep Foundation.
A Los Angeles Times article stated Americans are working longer days. Work concerns are also hindering sleep at night, according to the sleep foundation.
A majority of people also attempts to squeeze in family time and alone time, taking away from their sleep.
On average, Americans go to sleep at 10:53 p.m. and wake up at 5:35 a.m.
One-third of participants said they became very tired during work, as some even fell asleep, according to the survey.
