Eclipse

School is ending and the temperature is increasing, which can only mean one season is upon us.

Not the “I need to find a job so my parents will get off my back” season.

I’m talking about the summer movie season.

So far, studios have rolled out blockbuster successes; “Iron Man 2,” “Shrek Forever After” and “Sex and the City 2.”

More big-ticket flicks will be coming soon from Jackie Chan’s “Karate Kid” to Julia Roberts’ “Eat, Pray, Love”

The line up features more sequels, remakes, comic book adaptations and 3-D films.

There is going to be enough for everyone so it will be worth escaping the heat for a couple of hours.

Here are three movies sure to captivate, entertain and possibly amaze audiences while the other two, well, just look bad.

 Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

The tagline for “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” boasts that it’s “an epic epic of epicness.”

Sound outrageous enough?

Based on the popular graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim is an ordinary kid until he meets his new girlfriend Ramona Flowers.

In order to win her heart, he must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends.

Although the plot might sound ridiculous, having director Edgar Wright’s (“Shaun of the Dead”) video game oriented visual style along with Michael Cera’s deadpan delivery, “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” could honestly turn out to be the most epic, most unlikely and greatest comic-book adaptation of the summer.

 Inception

Two words: Christopher Nolan.

Even if you only have heard of that name from “The Dark Knight,” you should know that this man has talent.

He also made the incredible, mind-bending “Memento” and “The Prestige.”

With the release of “Inception,” well let’s just say it looks like he may have topped himself once again.

The previews don’t really say anything about what exactly the movie is, except it stars Leonardo DiCaprio. The film deals with the mind, dreams, and some sort of futuristic theft where people can steal ideas. It looks absolutely visually stunning in every sense of the word.

Expect to be blown away.

Toy Story 3

Pixar Animation has consistently knocked it out of the park with each and every film they’ve made.

Last two years was “Wall-e” and “Up.”

There are no doubts that Pixar will do it again and “Toy Story 3” will not only end up being funny, emotional and the best animated film of the year, but also one of the best movies of the year.

Piranha 3D

“Piranha 3D” honestly looks like it could be the “best worst” movie of the summer.

The plot is ridiculous.

The horror appears to be a B-movie knock off. It stars Richard Dreyfus back in the seas that haunted him in “Jaws”.

“Piranha 3D” could easily be the next “My Bloody Valentine 3D”, which if you’re keeping score would not be a good thing. But then again, it could be a laugh-out-loud, jump in your seat, awesomely terrible time at the movies.

Eclipse

Dear women of Cal Poly:

You honestly deserve something better than what the newest “Twilight” film could potentially offer you.

The new director, David Slade, “Hard Candy,” theoretically features an all-out war between the pale vampires and shirtless werewolves in the third installment.

However, it was around the first five seconds in the trailer when Edward Cullen says, “Isabella Swan, I promise to love you every moment of forever,” that ultimately turned “Eclipse” into a waste of time.

Ladies of Cal Poly, skip “Eclipse” and rent “Annie Hall” or “Singing in the Rain” instead.
